State Deputy

Brothers,

Greetings to one and all from Fayetteville! Gina and I truly hope this edition of the Tar Heel Knight finds you well (or as well as can be, considering some of you are still recovering from the effects of Matthew).

Matthew and its aftermath did occupy much of our time this past month. It has been humbling to see so many Brother Knights and their communities come together in order to provide some measure of relief to so many of those in need. I witnessed members of St. Francis de Sales Church in Lumberton literally receiving names and addresses of folks in need and putting together some relief packages and delivering them to these families that couldn’t leave their neighborhood. All orchestrated by Brother Jason Malinsky and members of Council 7225.

Members from Council 5487 in Goldsboro have been working miracles in that part of the world that God has entrusted to them. Providing relief to folks in Mt. Olive, Goldsboro and Newton Grove.

There is still much to be done. If you are suffering damage from the hurricane and subsequent floods, or know of a Brother Knight who is, please contact our Disaster Relief Chairman, Brother Gene Ziemba at disasterreliefchairman@kofcnc.org.

Great News – the STAR Awards finally arrived! Brother Vince Cerullo has been working hard with councils trying to coordinate presentation dates and times. Please work with him. The earlier you request, the more likely you will get your first choice of presentation dates!! This is an awesome honor and you should be proud. Your councils have worked very hard to earn this award, so please recognize that effort. Vince’s email is chancellor@kofcnc.org.

VERY IMPORTANT – Bishop Burbidge’s final public mass in the Diocese of Raleigh will be on Tuesday, November 29th at 6:30 pm. He will be celebrating at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Cary – PLEASE COME AND SHOW OUR BISHOP THE SUPPORT AND HONOR HE DESERVES.

I received some great advice, from a great man during the month of October. You know those times when you get a little frustrated. I reached that point last month. It was really kind of nice to be able to share with this gentleman my frustrations. He didn’t judge, he listened intently and a few hours later he sent me a note. What he said in that note was right on point, I really needed to hear his words at that moment in time. He said that “we are mere instruments in God’s divine plan. We are never in control of whatever outcomes our way still await us. My faith teaches me that I just know that god has a better way and the final say.”

So, when you are frustrated, please remember that there is a plan and it is greater than all of us. Until next month – May the Peace of Christ be with each one of you!

Peace,

Colin Jorsch
