YOOT News
The State Soccer Challenge is set for November 5, 2016 at Belmont Abbey College, Belmont NC and November 6, 2016 at Methodist University, Fayetteville NC. For directions and times, please visit www.kofcnc.org.
Poster and Essay Contests
It is that time of year again, to start up planning and holding your Poster and Essay Contest. You can get your kits from Supreme, go to their site www.kofc.org and order your kits. Continuing or mission of “Building the Domestic Church” I encourage all Councils to hold a “Keep Christ in Christmas” Poster Contest! It is a great way to have our youth think of the real reason for CHRISTmas Season! All Council Poster and Essay contestant 1st place winners should be sent to your respective District Deputy for judging and forwarding, in turn, to the State Poster and Essay Contest Chairman, SK Gary Andrews.
Keep Christ in Christmas Card Sales
Brothers it is not too late to order “Keep Christ in Christmas” Cards! This is a great way to bring the attention of CHRISTmas back to CHRIST, it is also a great fund raiser and you are helping our State Columbian Squires at the same time. So, thank you to those of you who have already ordered cards and we are looking forward to seeing the rest of the Councils order cards too! Worthy Brother Chris Headley is waiting to get your orders.
Coats for Kids
It is that time of the year! Temperatures are dropping at night and the mornings are becoming quite brisk! Start planning to order your Coats for Kids from Supreme. This is a great program which helps keep all of the children warm for the winter time. There are 12 coats in every case with an assortment of sizes. The cases come for either boys or girls. So, hurry up and get with your local shelters, food pantries, food banks and local schools. Let’s have a very successful year keeping the Yoot in NC warm. RMPC Sergio Miranda is available to give you suggestions and advice for planning a successful event.
Boy Scouts
The end of 2016 is growing to a close. We must have all Boy Scouts Troops which are sponsored by the Knights of Columbus transferred to their local Parish. There can be no more sponsorship of Boy Scouts through the Knight of Columbus at the end of this year. Please note however, that this does not mean Knights of Columbus cannot help or assist the Boy Scout Troops, the Knights can no longer sponsor them. If you are having any problems or questions, please contact Worthy Brother Pat O’Doherty.
Columbian Squires
The State Chief Squire Joseph Tozzi wishes to thank all the Councils who have sponsored a Columbian Squires Circle. He also wants to thank all the Councils who have participated in the “Keep Christ in Christmas” Card Sales. These monies help us fund our State Squires Convention and allow us to support Holy Angels in Belmont NC, “Love My Life” Youth Rally, MiraVia, and Special Olympics, to name a few. Please continue to support the Columbian Squires. If you have any questions, please contact Ken Friend.
Free Throw Championship
It is time to start planning your Free Throw Championship. Council should be ordering the planning kit from Supreme www.kofc.org. Once the Councils have completed their Free Throw Tournament, they should be coordinating with their District Deputies to see when he is going to hold his Tournament. We will be holding the State Free Throw Championship in Burlington NC, date to be decided.
I encourage all Knights of Columbus to be active with our Yoot! This can be done in numerous ways and many of our Knights are engaged, but our parishes need more assistance! Think about becoming a Catechist or a Catechist Aid. We are called to help “Build the Domestic Church”, what a wonderful way to do so!
YOOT, YOOT, YOOT!!!!!!
